Plugs not firing. Please Help!
 

Hey guys. I'm in deserate need of some help. I'm 19, and i just bought my second car, an '84 944. I'm having one problem after another. Last week i'm cruising at about 40 mph, and the engine cuts out. I try to start it up again, and it cranks, but won't start. A friend looks at it for me, and says that the plugs arent firing. Does anyone have any advice.

I appreciate any help. Looks like i got in a little over my head with this car.

check the DME relay at the fuse box.

Try to sell it

My 944 did the same thing last week. The fix: new fuel pump relay. $20 part. Hopefully that is you problem.

Seriously though if you're not comfortable with working on the car it is going to get real expensive in the future to keep it on the road. It sounded to me like you are more of the type to pay someone to fix it - which is cool - I have no problem with that. But at 19 man, you should be spending your money on women not the mechanic..lol

haha, point taken wolfrpi. Except that women were the reason that i bought the porsch in the first place. Kinda ironic, huh?

But seriously, i'm not lookin to pay anyone to work on my car. My last one was a 300zx, and i was the only that touched it. Problem is that i had a friend that could help me diagnos problems back then. Now i'm away at school, and don't have any backup. I consider myself pretty mechanically inclined, and can usually fix things, once i know what it is that needs to be fixed. *that*, however, is where the problem lies.

Try the DME relay - pull it out, tap it on the ground, rattle it around and stick it back in. Try a new one if you can ($25 from Porsche dealer). If thats not it it sounds like a speed sensor.

no fire to plugs is usually the speed sensor. Coils don't go bad usually but that is possible.
