Sweet! I searched and searched and searched! I found a very informative thread! I'm sure SoCal driver knows of it well!
I think I know where the temp sender is. Here's the thread. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=136799&highlight=oil+press ure+sender I'll be checking the damn pully tension. I wouldn't be suprised if that was my problem! Argh! I got about 65K on the rebuilt heads on this motor too! 245,000 miles and going! Previous owner popped the belt at 180K, and... ummm... Bent ALL the VALVES! $300 for a temp sender?! Holy ****! |

Oil pressure sender $47 including seal Engine temp sender $28 including seal Oil Presure Relief Valve $276 I didn't get the audio part of the ASX file. Could be the Windows Media player? But it looks like those that did play the audio think it's lack of oil pressure. If it is and you have serious knocking then you have blown the bottom end; crank or rod bearing. |
Look at your video, the gauge was working.
|
BTW: the belt tension won't affect what's going on right now, though I'd also look at the torque of the front crank pulley, too loose and the oil pump doesn't get driven.

Did you get the audio part? |
oops, I didn't see the other posts

Well, I just passed smog.
The oil gauge or sender serious is broken. I need to fix it. I've seen the oil pressure gauge work before. It's a connection issue. If the bottom end is bad, I am sure the car would be broken long ago. I dirve it almost every day. It's just a cold knock. She runs great when warm! She has lots of power too! I'll be checking for that sender wire today. |
I cleaned the contacts on the oil pressure sender, and I now read 3 BAR. The funny thing is, it doesn't fluctuate. Maybe the sender is bad? I rev the 944 and it stays a 3 BAR. Well, before it was nothing before I cleaned the contacts.
I reversed the wires, and it stayed pegged at the bottom. So, I put it back the way it was. I was just checking to see if the wires got reversed from the last time it was in the shop... Who knows! I guess 44.1 PSI is decent oil pressure.... Should it be at 50-65 PSI? (3-4 BAR) I remember the oil press. gauge fluxuating with RPMs in the past... |
it should peg when cold, in the video it was working. I did hear the audio, but it was noisy as heck and I have crappy speakers, I'll take another listen.
|
Haha. I fired her up again and doing the ATF trick, and the Oil pressure is way above 5 BAR! LOL. I'm going to reverse the wires one more time. I think when I sinched the contacts down, it actually had contact.
|
maybe low on oil or are you 1qt overfilled now?
|
I'm full. Not over full. I got oil pressure. 4 BAR idle. 5 BAR up on RPMS.
I drained some oil to compensate for the quart of ATF. I guess the wires were crossed the whole time! So, I have oil pressure! PROBLEM SOLVED. Now... for that knocking..... I ran the car for 10 minutes with the ATF. A little stinky, but I'll drive it around the block and change the oil out with fresh oil. |
Jesus man. The oil pressure was working great! Then now it stopped working again! ARGH! So, naturally, I unscrewed it to see what was going on and when I put the nuts back on, I stripped one of them out. DOH! (I stripped the inner stud off) I get a red light now for no oil pressure reading and the Exclamation light is on and the oil pressure gauge works intermittently of course! =)
I'm replacing it all! The heck with it! I have a 1985 1/2 944. Can someone verify if this is the correct part # to order? -Oil Pressure Sender, 924S/944/968 All F-606-203-01 $45.85 Also, what's this Oil Level Sender, (924S/944/968 All E-613-150-00 $84.25) ???? Is this something completely different? I look on the schematics and It's hard to read what's what because the #'s are not labled... http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/944M/POR_944M_electr_pg4.htm Also, I think the ATF trick is working. The valves seem to be clearing up on the knocking.... Time will only tell. I'm still going to check belt tensioning. After this rain clears up! Thanks. |
