<< i'll have a Porsche flag, and we'll probably be in the inside (apex) side of turn 1 after the pits. >>
Sad to say but the Porsche flag will have to be at half mast.... Since the Porsche factory pulled out of racing, their cars have been progressively been getting less competitive. We were just at the last round of the the ALMS at Laguna Seca and the only Porsche on the podium was the Alex Job 996 of Sascha Maasen and Lucas Luhr, third in GT Class. Other than that, the BMW's simply cleaned up. The factory BMW V8's are truly gorgeous sounding, though questionable about the true spirit of Homologation. My prediction for Qualifying: 1st in LMP900: Joest Audi R8 2nd in LMP900: Joest Audi R8 3rd in LMP900: Panoz 1st in LMP675: **** Barbour 2nd in LMP675: **** Barbour 3rd in LMP675: Nobody 1st in GTS: Konrad Saleen S7 2nd in GTS: Walter Brun Saleen S7 3rd in GTS: Pratt & Miller Corvette 1st in GT: Schnitzer BMW 2nd in GT: Schnitzer BMW 3rd in GT: Alex Job Porsche My prediction for the Race: 1st Overall and in LMP900: Joest Audi R8 2nd Overall and in LMP900: Champion Audi R8 3rd Overall and in LMP900: Panoz 4th Overall and 1st in GTS: Saleen S7 2nd in GTS: Pratt & Miller Corvette 3rd in GTS: Pratt & Miller Corvette 1st in GT: Alex Job Porsche 996 2nd in GT: Petersen Motorsports Porsche 996 3rd in GT: PTG BMW I think the Joest Audi's with their proven record will simply walk away at the start and set some blazing lap times. Panoz will be thundering away some impressive lap times and hold 3rd & 4th but by the 6th hour, they'll start breaking down with one remaining limping to 3rd. One of the Joest Audi's will either break or contact and be out. Meanwhile, the Champion Audi will quietly be moving up the ranks slipping comfortably into 2nd. LMP675 will be Barbour cars only. I doubt either of the cars will finish the race. In GTS, the Saleen will set the pole. After a long season of struggle, the car has finally proven it's durability and will finally beat the Corvettes. We spent the last race with the Saleen Team and the mechanics are finally feeling confident that the car will make at least 10 hours (witness Daytona). This will be a great surprise to the Corvettes (and everybody else). Rumour has it that Oreca will pull out a Viper just for this event. But with it's lack of ongoing development, the car will finish the race but not on the podium. Also, while the Walter Brun Saleen S7 will qualify well, the lack of endurance races on the European circuit and little knowledge of the new car will show as they won't finish. Corvettes will simply lumber along to a classic 2nd and 3rd finish. In GT, the BMW's will prove very quick in qualifying. But Porsche durability will last through the race. The Schnitzer cars won't last while the PTG cars will. That's my prediction... anybody care to counter? By the way, if you want to see what most of these cars look like, we posted a story with pictures at our website: http://www.RealRide.com Regards, David PENNYWEB/REALRIDE.COM RACING http://www.RealRide.com |
