I've run it in my Diesel all the time. I'm still running Mobile in the 944.

Rotella is the best selling oil for diesels that anyone makes, it is some very good oil and it also very good for gas engines, those big diesels run some very high miles before oil changes and are under a lot of strain, so it's gotta be good.

i dont get it.. if these oils are SO much better and work better, then why dont they use them as STANDARD engine oils rather than DEISEL only?

I've been braggin on diesel oils since I started using them in my gas engines (I have a diesel suburban also)... now you see what I mean. I still think there is some kinda of major conspiracy in the oils co's to make us buy the cheap crap they sell for gas engines or the way too expensive synthetics they try to pass off as best... and i still think the diesel oils are the best deal, especially for older cars. I've found the diesel oil will last 2x as long as regular oil easily. Who knows.... maybe if the crap gas oil wasn't available to tear up your engines, all cars might go 200,000 miles plus?????

It seems to me that three things make an oil wear out. Contamination, if you're running rich or have bad rings, valve guides some higher detergent oils may be better. High temps may break down the bulk modulus, so lubrication is lost & chemically change or vaporize the oil. Oil worn out or broken down, rarely happens, unless because of first two.
Deisel oil may help on contamination & heat. Synthetics definely help on the heat. I think Porsche reccomends Synthetic in all new models. Unless it was one of these I wouldn't run Syntheic in NA except for extreme conditions (racing aircooled motor). To me it seems like Castroil, holds up good from vaporization but thins out more at high temps than Mobil 1. drew1 |
