new second gear synchro in 951 - $35 installed!

3 quarts of Mobil 1 transaxle fluid and a $7 allen wrench and my cold shifting problems went away (warm shifting improved as well). Swepco sucks! Thanks for all of your advice.

What problems did you have with SWEPCO? I have heard it is like liquid gold.

How hard is it to do that, and what's the procedure? I'm having some shifting problems when cold.... like, you gotta baby it to get in second gear.

Ha, I have the worst second gear. All the others, as soon as you start pushing it into gear you can feel the syncro's spin it up and it goes in smoothly. For my second gear, it goes about 3/4 of the way in, with no resistance then there is a big clunk and the car jerks as it goes into gear. I think my second gear is ground to bits.

Swepco is a 486 computer as Mobil-1 is to a 2.4 GHz Pentium. The 911 guys who praise it so much may be behind the times.

By a couple of decades.

You get the car up tp operating temperature, remove the 17mm drain plug from the bottom of the tranny(it is way in the back) and drain. Put the drain plug back in, remove the fill plug (further away, more of a stretch) and fill.

I thought he meant replacing the gear oil made his problems go away, therefore there was no need to replace the synchro.

I am either on the ball (uncommon at times) or I missed something (all too common).

Either way...

Peace
