factory wheel paint code

i am looking for the paint code for factory wheels (phone dials) if there was one. i have been getting some conflicting info and i would like to clear this up so i can get them painted.

Hmm. Didn't know that there was a "paint" code for them. Exactly what info have you heard about them so far?

From what I've heard the touch up paint available for them (I believe the brand is "wurth"?) is the OEM paint.

I thought Wurth was OEM for Cookies and Fuchs, I am not aware of the phone dials being painted either.

Phonedials used Wurth as well. I know that there were a few different finishes in which they came in. They had a few shades of silver and even a whiter-looking one for some cars. I believe this was on a thread a few years back. Might want to try a search.

Don't know exactly HOW they were painted, but when I stripped mine to refinish them last summer, it looked like the standard grey primer underneath and tons of (difficult to remove) clearcoat. FYI: If anyone is looking to refinish theirs, try griotsgarage.com and their "german wheel refinishing kit". Had fabulous results over here.

i looked on griots garage and found the kit...how good were the results you got from this? i dont need a show finish but i want it too look as close as possible to original. thanks for all the help.

der98panzer, the Griot's kit worked for me because it came with the "full kit" of all the different primers, paints, etc. from start to finish. Wurth is impossible to find around here and I didn't want to bother to run to the store if something ran out. The results were great and still look brand new after going through a monster winter so far. Also painted the center caps while I was at it and they add a great touch.

thanks for all the help guys. a few questions for zehnd...how have they held up without clear? and also what was your final grit before and after sanding, and how many coats of primer? thanks again.

Hey,

To tell you the truth my car has been parked for the winter so the wheels haven't been outside yet. Winter

I used 400 grit wet/dry paper for the first sand. Cleaned with prepsol.

One coat of primer - This was the self etching from Wurth's (Because I had some)

I used a 3m sanding pad (not sure of the grit) to take of all the little pits. Cleaned with prepsol.

Shot on a couple coats of the silver "perormance" paint. (I think the brand name in the USA is duplicolor)
Waited for a few weeks , sealed and waxed.

I got the idea from Peckster on Rennlist and he was very happy with it.

He only did one rim. He said it matched so well that he hasn't had to do the other one's yet.

A liquid you put on the paint (same process as putting on wax) before you wax.
