I have a *brace yourself* VW beetle that is fixing to have a 914 tranny installed. Will the 944 trailing arms fit on the 914 tranny?
Thanks, Cale |

If you didn't already, ask over at the 914 board. They may know.

the trailing arms don't mount on any transaxle.

I know, as fact, that the arms mount on a stock VW IRS tranny, so why wouldnt they go on a porsche 914? And what do you mean any ? They fit on the 944, so again I ask, why no other porsche trannies?

- Cale, if the 944/951 trailing arms mount on the TORSION BAR CARRIER of an air-cooled VW (which I wouldn't know, as I don't have experience with air-cooled VWs), then it is likely that it could be made to work on a 914 TORSION BAR CARRIER. They do not mount on the transaxle.
If you are asking about AXLES, then because of Porsche/VW/Audi parts sharing, I'd bet that some combination of axle and inner and outer CV joint, and CV Joint cups for the output shafts on the 914 tranny would give you an axle that would work with the 944 spindle (on the trailing arm) and the 914 transaxle... So, what are you asking? are you asking about the AXLES or about the trailing arm? The trailing arm does not mount on the transaxle on the 944. ------------------ keith '86 951 redNeckarsulm |

I think maybe he means the axle shafts, not the trailing arms.

I'm sorry about the confusion, I did mean the axle shafts, not the actual trailing arms, I was thinking of the whole assembly as one unit. FYI the trailing arm brackets are on the torsion housing on an aircooled VW.
Thanks, Cale |
