for new owners to take so we don't sound so stupid. How the heck do you reset the trip odometer on a 1985.5 944? I read something about a knob on the instrument panel, but I don't seem to have one. And no, I'm not blonde.

it's to the right of the speedo, looks like a part of the ventilation lever. do not reset while car is moving.

Marie, welcome to the board. You will find the reset button in a strange place. Look at the main AC vent in the middle of the dash. Then look a little left to an smaller auxillary vent(still to the right of the steering column, though). You will see a little "button" in the middle of that small vent. It looks like it would direct the flow of the air, but surprise, it is the trip reset button. It will only work with ignition on.

Hope this helps,
Dave

in the center of the airvent immeadiatly to the right of the instrument panel is the magic button.... but don't push it unless ur stopped

Marie,

Because if you do push it while moving, you will more than likely break the plastic gears inside the odometer, which will result in the common "my odometer is broken, but my speedo still works fine".

Eric P.S. welcome aboard

Cool, another thing for me to break. Don't ya just love German engineering?

Don't worry about "stupid questions". We are glad you are here.

No such thing as a stupid question here. You're a lot safer here than you are in the NG. Trust me.

It took me awhile to find it at first also. It's part of the vents on the dashhttp://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate...rie::s 944.jpg
