Wear Sensor Warning Light....Might have found the culprit

While inspecting my OPRV I think I found, possibly, the culprit of my wear sensor warning light being on constantly. The sensors had been replaced so I know they were not the problem and they PO told me that he could not find the reason either. Well, it looks like the wire was cut and thus creating a short. What wire material and gauge should I use to splice in a clean section? Or should I cut the wire and strip the shielding then solder the two ends together?

congrats...if it were my car I'd just cut the wire and strip the insulation, crimp it and use some weather-proof tape to protect it...or heat shrink plastic tubing stuff...whatever
