Diagnostics

Hello all,

I'll post the problem I am having in another thread, but here is the question?

Is there an electronic diagnostic computer for the 944?

There are so many cars that just need to have something plugged in, that diagnoses many problems & I am wondering if it is available for the 944.

Thanks,

GHEN

Think the 87's have a led in the test plug or you can bridge two of the contacts and use an led to read the test codes. Check Wilk's site www.frwilk.com. He night have something on it. If not then try www.clarks-garage.com or Racer X's site.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

The best way is to conenct the car to a "big box' tester as used in most repair shops. The CO/idle speed, fuel pressure/injector dwell, spark KV compression and leakdown gives the best clue on what's going on.
The "blink code" tester is best used as a door stop.

so still no diagnostics, the real system didn't arrive until the 1989 model year and then only some of the cars were equipped. Prior to that, forget it.

In 1992 I bought an 86 300z..

That blinky blink thing drove me nuts! I am fairly technically minded and it did nothing but frustrate the hell out of me.

Nope, the "Hammer" was first used in the 1989 model year for 964, 928, 944 Turbo and 944S2, only some vehicle were equipped, by 1989 All of them were. The 2.7 944 did not have a "Hammer" diagnosis plug.
