944 Heater problem
Hi I am new to this forum and was hoping that you could offer some advice....
I have an early (85?) 944 brought it about 3 months ago and all seems to be going ok... its had it 2.5 replaced with a 2.7 and got big shiney cup wheels! its had a new window motor and needs boot sill, carpet mats, and that plastic bit under the gear gaitor... but anyway! but its still fun and cheaper to run than my lat car ( volvo 850!) I have a problem with the heater.... it seems to be always hot! If you start it and don't turn the fan on and leave the tempreture down to freezing then it doesn't get too warm... however if you put the heating on for any length of time (i.e. to clear the window) it stays hot, even if you turn the tempreture down and the fan off. This isn't too bad on a short distance, but if you go on a long journey at any decent speed ;) then the cockpit becomes like an inferno and nearly mettles my shoes! I really want to get this sorted before the summer comes so that I don't end up melting! Thanks in advance for any help or advice that you can give Regards Neil |
Sounds like the slider for the temperature control might not be engaging; I'm not sure offhand whether they're cable or pneumatic damper door controls, but in any event, I'd check to make sure that the slider control is actually moving the damper door. Sounds like it's stuck fully open to me.

Right.
The heater valve is not closing all the way. The early 944's have a cable (sheathed solid wire) that opens/closes the valve. The anchor for the sheath behind the slider on the dash will break (it's plastic) and allow the sheath to move with the cable. Either figure out a clamp for this using two small fasteners and some sheet metal or buy another bracket to replace the broken one. |
