From my experience with the wheel locks, you can essentially run a hair pin through the cylinder several times while pulling on the lock, and it will come right off. The tumblers are not very tight (at least on my '85) and once you line one tumbler up, the next is pretty easy to catch. Once the lock is off the wheel, it's fairly easy to machine a key, matching one tumbler at a time. It's not cheap, but since my driver's side door handle was getting loose, I bought a new one and played around with the lock cylinder for a while before swapping it with the one from my old handle. Pelican Parts sells the handle, cylinder and keys all together, so you don't even have to muck up your existing handle until you're ready to do the swap. I would imagine that the alarm key cylinder is a ***** to get to, considering you'd probably have to take off the same interior trim panel that you would for a rear speaker replacement. Perhaps someone with the factory alarm system knows a trick (maybe involving that air vent in the door jamb?) ------------------ -C '85/1 944 NA |
