What the heck is this....
I've been wondering this ever since I bought my 944 - what the heck is the second lock on the driver's side rear quarter panel for? My key will fit in there, but it won't turn. Is it for the ejector seat or a secret compartment for beer?

Turn the key. But mine was hard to turn at first because the other owner had another alarm installed and the factory one wasn't used. Maybe put some WD-40 in it or something. It's loud and only works when someone opens the door. BUT IT WORKS

there is a separate key, i think horizontal is off, verticle is on (it only turns 90 degrees)... horn goes off and makes it 'impossible' to start if triggered. Protects hood, doors and hatch. If you don't have the key or key code, you'll need a locksmith or dealers help.

I was told at one time by a locksmith that it would cost me $350 to create a key for my car because the Porsche locks were "special". Was he full of it? Luckily I found my keys and had spares made!

If so equipped(it was an option) your factory alarm keyhole will be located on the drivers' side quarter panel at the same elevation as the door handle--you can't miss it. Eric (factory alarm) |

I wouldn't even bother with the factory alarm, for the cost of getting a set of keys cut..........
Get a new alarm, and you can setup your power locks to work with the new one, and if you live in the frozen tundra like I do..... you can hook up a car-starter as well. Alex |

A replacement Alarm Cylinder and Key may be procurred from a Porsche Dealer for Approx. $55.00. It is replaced by removing the Plastic cover at the outer key slot and removing the jamnut. Back access is through the door pillar vent on the Driver's side. Ther are two wires to disconnect.

My car didn't have the keys for the wheel-locks or the alarm. The local locksmith was able to make keys for both for $75. I was amazed that he was able to create a key for them and asked him how he did it and he just said "...that's what locksmiths do..."
He said the alarm key is pretty common, but the wheel lock key blank rare. |
