In following the thread on Vipr's boost problem, folks were discussing the banjo bolt "mod". My 86 951 had Weltmeister chips put in by the previous owner. The receipt shows "install DME & KLR performance chips", but doesn't mention anything about a banjo bolt restrictor.
When I installed the LBE, I noticed the banjo bolt does have what looks like a restrictor in it. It is kind of brass looking and reduces the diameter of the inside of the bolt. Is this stock and is the banjo bolt supposed to be completely hollow? It didn't look like it was designed to come out. I get full 2bar boost on the stock gauge. |

That is a jetted banjo bolt, should have probably come with the chips, similar to APE. If you are going to run the LBE, then you need to go back to a factory bolt,,which is hollow. IF you don't, you would be slowing the signal/pressure to the wastegate twice. Most of those jets will come out with an instrument screwdriver; if you can't find the original banjo bolt.
When you get time/money, buy the LR wastegate and full manual controller,,,,run a true 10 - 14 psi and WOW!(then you'll get used to that and then more $$$$$$) |

Unless they've changed their setup recently, the Weltmeister chips come with wastegate shims instead of a modified banjo bolt. Other chips I've seen, such as Europroducts, also have wastegate shims. As far as I know, the APE chips are the only ones that use the banjo bolt to increase boost.
