problem..argh!!! please help!

Hey Guys,

Running a 85.5 944 non turbo automatic transmission. The car is in park, running and I turn the key all the ways towards me to shut off the engine. Sometimes it will cleanly shut off, but most of the time the engine will try to turn over again. It makes a fairly loud rumble noise when I turn the key off, and the front of the car rumbles for a second. Sorry, I don't know how else to describe this. Any input on the cause is much appreciated.

Jim

sounds like you may be describing 'dieseling' cause by cheap low octane gas. just a guess

javier 10-12-2001 01:21 PM

what grade of gas are you running.

when was your last tune up or spark plug change.

JimJim 10-12-2001 01:23 PM

Im using just "regular" gas. What should a car of this make be using for fuel? Premium?

EugeneYu 10-12-2001 01:25 PM

One guy can not start the engine, and another guy can not shut off the engine. What a world!

I guess there is something wrong in your ingition key area. At first, try to replace a ingition core behind the key.

Bob's944 10-12-2001 01:25 PM

either add a can of octane booster or fill up with premium, your prollum should go away, I 'diesel' with cheap gas, not with premium.

javier 10-12-2001 01:40 PM

yep Bob, I agree, this is a gas problem. A shot of octane boost and a switch to a better grade or name brand fuel should clear this up.

It is "dieseling". There is a tsb for this requiring some wiring modifications. But it probably is a fuel problem.

If not, check the year of the turn signal relay, the superceeded part has a diode to stop alternator feedback into the igniton circuit that causes run-on

85.5 944na Auto...Use premium fuel and the dieseling goes away. I just rolled over 150,000 miles JimJim, how many on your Automatic?

Could leaky fuel injectors cause this problem?

It's not like diesel. No fire no engine run. Petroleum can not run the engine by pressure.

i have an auto too. its nothign to do with the tranny. its just cheap gas..

happens to me too. after driving for a while, i shut it off, and the engine rumbles and shudders then shuts off. i think its the DIESELING that bob explained.
