85.5 N/A Euro Running Rich?
 

Friends,

My car is running a bit rich and I need to pass emissions. I have no reason to think that the electronics are not functioning properly. My car did have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator installed by the P.O. I am running quite rich and am trying to lean it out w/o causing damage (factory the euro's run at 10.6:1). Currently the car idles around 28 PSI. Any suggestions on what I can safely take this thing down to... or is this a stupid idea?

FYI: The DME settings have already been set back to stock settings.

I agree with Cris, Donn't adjust anything change the O2 sensor first then see how things go. I thing if O2 sensor and CAT are good you should pass the emmissions test. remember to run her hard before taking the test. ;~)

As the others have said, change the O2 sensor.

If that doesn't work, adjust the CO screw on the air meter. It's on the top, covered by a metal plug (if no one else has tampered with it before). Drill the plug with a small drill and pull it out. Turning the screw counterclockwise leans the mixture.

CO screw on the AFM has a very small amount of adjustment. Probably not going to help you very much. It's actually a fine tune adjustment for the internal setting on the AFM. Check your O2 by un-plugging it and listening for idle variance. I would open the top of the AFM, it's a black cover that's glued in place. Crank the positioner back 3 clicks counter clockwise. That should lean you out enough. If your failing and your too rich, you could mess with the idle CO screw all day and never make enough difference. I just went through this on my 951. Was going to be $100 at the shop. Did it myself for free.

Adjusting the CO screw on the AFM only adjust the mixture at idle. You can adjust the AFM or you can fix what is broken, it's your choice.
