differences between koni and non koni struts/housings
okay here is the problem, on the passenger side i had a sport option koni with the different mount, on the driver side i have a stock strut w/ the stock mount, are the springs the same? are the housings the same? where can i get a new mount that will match the passenger side? I am really confused, and can i swap out the strut inserts myself? I am planning on ordering struts from paragon soon, they seem to have the best prices, but if anyone has a used koni w/ around 60k miles on it i would be interested, andy leads?:D

Early 944s have a removable strut insert. The overall strut housing and strut shaft are thinner, and the cap on the top of the housing screws off (replaceable inserts). The later versions, had the strut as an integral part of the housing and the cap was not removable. To replace you had to replace the entire strut assembly. Koni has made inserts for the later struts that require you to cut off the top, and drill a hole in the bottom. It's not really hard, but does take a little time to do it right.

Springs are a different matter, and if there's no part number visible it's nearly impossible to figure out what OEM spring rate you may have. Best bet is to buy a matched set of aftermarket springs.
