Couple of probs/questions

Heya.

I added some oil to my car and on the tip of the oil cap there was some yellowy film..i remember having to work on my buddy's car after he got that like 3 years ago..

I dont remember what we did..but all i know is that it's bad news.

What causes this again?

Also..a full engine swap from the 968..how difficult is it to do..

I saw 944968.com..and i was impressed..

Leaking coolant into the crankcase because of a leak in the oil/water heater exchange.

Check repair of oil/water heater exchanger .

There's a link in the description of the problem which describes how to repair it. It's described as a 45 - 90 minute job, but I've never done it.

Good luck!

Before you go to the trouble of replacing those parts check to see if there is any mixing on the dipstick or in the coolant res. If there is not then what was the temp outside? The residue has been known to form on the inside of the cap in extreme cold due to the heat of the oil and the temp difference of the cap. If there is no mixing anywhere else I would say that you are probably okay. If you check RL as well there was a thread about this very same thing less than a week ago.

Excellence magazine did an article on the 968 swap it didn't seem TOO hard (if you don't consider doing an engine swap difficult).

I am not sure how/if it would work in one of our early (83-84) cars.

Of course you would have to get ALL the electronics because the engines are very different.

What does the coolant tank have in it......oil? Yes then it needs cooler seal kit. I would also upgrade the OPRV to a 1 piece valve. 83 has the 3 piece valve. A complete flushing of the system as well.

986 will take more than to turbo it.
Complete brake system
Exhaust and hanging points differ
much heavier
new tranny
new T tube
wheels to fit the new larger rotors and etc.
All new electronics swap.............. Sman

It's cool..im willing to work for the 968 project.

As for the car..

The dipstick didnt look like it had any coolant on it..i mean the oil was just brown...but im gonna go for a closer look..

And i did drive my car a little bit in the -20C temeratures a few times..so i dont know if that could have caused the film deposit.

FYI the magazine article may have been a S2 motor I'll have to dig it up if you are really interested (I'm at work)

Just to throw gas on the flames... they DO make a low boost turbo kit for the 968...

Hee hee

Oh yeah just buy a turbo instead

Don't want you to think I'm going soft on ya!

It's a joke!

Or open up that 3.0L, call Scott Gomes and order the correct pistons (lower CR) and have a real 3.0L turbo able to run 15psi if you like.
