Can't ... find ... connection ... UGH!
This is very much like being constipated.
I hooked the battery up to ye olde' dead 77 924 (production says 09/77) and i get one light on all the time -> Oil Pressure Light. It won't turn off unless i unhook the battery or when i turn the ignition switch into the fully engaged position. But this is just one of a few problems. My turn signals and lights dont work, possibly for the reason that they're run through the same line as my coolant tempurature sending unit. With the help of Ken ('nother 924 owner nearby) i've been able to track THAT problem. Whereabouts does the wire hook into this sensor/gauge in the engine compartment? On mine it's a blue wire with a yellow stripe. As far as i know, it's on the right of the distributor somewhere, near the oil pressure sensor. Second comes the starter. I have a feeling the battery i used doesn't have enough power to throw the starter into action and crank the engine over. I have a really big tough battery in my bug which i'll run via jumper cables tomorrow. That and i've got a black with yellow striped wire coming in from the engine compartment that i can't find on my wiring diagram, nor what it goes to (wtf?). I'll snap some pics later tonight to locate said items. I'll also show off the sexy re-wiring i did in the rear of the car, very professional. It's just this fuse-and-relay ***** that's getting to me now. All help is apprecieated :D |
*Bump*
Ill be troubleshooting these issues today. My guess is the black and yellow wire is for nothing or it goes to the fuse/relay panel as it's not present on wiring diagrams. As for the oil light on the dash... any thoughts? I'm believing i might need new relays all around, but im not certain, where can i get a whole set? |
If the battery isnt fresh, you can really get ALL kind of funny dash light problems. This can also occur if you havent screwed the battery connections tight!
What you otherwise ALWAYS here, is to clean the ground connections thorrowly. They are located behind the fuse/relay box. Its worth trying to clean them all. Even if its a PITA to get a hold of them. |
Okay, cleaned grounds, new battery, swapped relays, now it's dead completely. No instrument movement (there was a little beforehand when i had hooked the battery up).
This car needs a new wiring harness. ALL NEW. |
