Greetings, this is my first post although I have been watching this forum for some time. I have a question concerning a turbo charger for my '80 924. The number is 5326 970 6407 D. Can anyone tell me if this will fit a 1980. I appreciate any and all information. Thanks.

Here's some things to look for on 924T turbocharger.
1. Company: KKK 2. Type K26 3. Hot Side Intake from Ex Manifold: 3 bolt Outlet to exhaust pipe: 4 bolt 4. Cold side: Has an internal bypass valve 5. Is not water cooled. Tomorrow, I'll try to dig around & see if your number means anything. I know they made 3 different turbochargers for 924, Ref: Parts & Reference Manual, with only difference I ve seen is grooves for ring type seals instead of gaskets. drew1 |

John,
Checked a 924 turbocharger that I got and drilled a broke stud out of to have a spare for wife's car. The number on the bottom row of the name plate was 5326 970 6022. On an old core 944 turbocharger the number on the bottom core of the nameplate was the same except the last 4 numbers 6720. The 944 turbocharger is different from 924 by 944 doesn't have bypass built in cold side. The 944 has a four bolt connection to exhaust manifold instead of 3. The PCNA Parts & Reference (Tech Bulletin 5) gives 4 versions of turbochargers for 924. Version I On hot side has two gaskets. II has a ring on exhaust manifold side but a gasket on exhaust pipe side.II has two rings. 1980 models have Version I, II, & III. Version III is the only turbo for 1981. According the bulletin turbos on '80 models are not interchangeable with "81 models. '80 Ver I 6401 last 4 numbers II 6404 III 6406 '81 Ver III 6407 Interesting the spare I have has a '80 Ver II hot side but a higher number on the cold side. You might to post the number and a description of your turbocharger on 911 board. Maybe it is off a 930, or even try a Volvo site. drew1 |

Thanks for the information Drew. I know you from some time ago. I beleive I bought some pieces from you on ebay. I am looking at this turbo thinking I could rebuild it and keep for a spare. I am also going to replace the exhaust manifold so I want to be able to replace everything at one time. It looks like from your information the numbers fit the 1981 and I am S.O.L.. Again thanks.

Glad to help John & good luck on replacing the stuff. Alligning all of the exhaust & oil lines can be a pain.
Seems like jland924t is familiar, but I've never sold on ebay. drew1 |
