Nice Pontiac?????

I was taking a customer home in my car this morning and this is how the conversation went:

Him:So hows the pontiac running?
Me:...um, pontiac, I this isn't a Pontiac.
Him:really? what is it?
Me:Its a Porsche
Him:A Porch
Me:yeah a PORSCHE
Him:geez i must be in the wrong line of business
Me:it wasn't that much
Him:I thought all Porch's were exspensive
Me:not really......

Some people have no clue...GOOD. Have a great weekend fellows.

P.S. Do they really look like Pontiacs?

Porsche, through and through

Calling a Porsche a Pontiac is like calling a Ferrari a Ford. Only a moron would do it. Don't worry Stray, it looks nothing like ANY pontiac!!

Taking a customer home ... he thinks your Porsche is a Pontiac ... uh, I don't know what you sell but you should darn well be able to sell this guy a $hit-load of it!

Pontiac? LOL. I dunno, the only car that looks like ours is a gen 2 RX-7, and Mazda got sued for that.

"944 Series:
THE BIG PICTURE: One of the 'modern' Porsches. They have never been as popular as the more traditional-looking 911s: thats their chief drawback. They handle and preform at least as well as their rear-engined cousins, but people drive Porsches as much for their looks and status as for their handling ability. The bottom line is: there's no Jap car that looks like the 911, there are plenty that look like the 924 & 944. Get it?

FOR: Sporty, handles well, looks more modern than 911
AGAINST: Expensive to own and maintain, less-classic looks reflected in less-classic price"

From "The Dog & Lemon Guide, 2001 Edition"

Sad but kinda true. The against part applies more for us here in NZ and Oz cos theres less of a market.

Well I actually have two P-Cars. One Pontiac '79 Trans Am and one Porsche '87 951. Two of the most enjoyable cars to drive in my opinion, in different ways of course.

Yea, I had a lot of the same thing as you Chris. The sad part is that I live in an area which has tons of Porsches, albeit new ones. One time I had stopped at a grocery store to look at a 911 that was for sale. It was a beautiful red SC which looked like a 993TT. While I was looking at it another guy came up and asked me if it was faster than my Lotus. I looked at him funny for a second not realizing what he meant, and then I told him that it would eat my Porsche. He laughed when he realized what he had said. The 944 is a very modern looking car, especially for it's age. The 951's especially.

Cool

I'm a 17 yr old HS senior with a red 83 944. I always get asked to race and people always say "so who bought you that". It's funny they don't know it's older than me, has 183k miles and i payed for it with a minimum wage job. By spring I'll have enough for a 86 951 and then the power can back up the looks and prestige. Porsche- there is no substitute.

LOL, somebody thought my car was a Saab as well. Also, somebody told me that it looks like a Volvo from the rear end.

no Jap car looks like a 911? apparently someone hasn't seen the silhouette of the new Nissan 250Z and Mazda RX-8. virtual carbon copy if you squint.

the most common thing i hear is that a 911 looks like a VW Beetle that was squashed. i also hear the 944 / 2nd generation RX-7 thing. also...

the round headlights of a Miata are at the same height and shape as a non-996 911. look in your rearview mirror at a Miata with its headlights on and you may think it's a 911 from a distance. a Mazda RX-7 will look like a 924/944.
