There is a topic which bears the same title around 5 lines down from this. You should look at it, you won't get much different answers. Also, do a search of the board.

Different engines Tim... JimW has a 944S with the 2.5L 16V... All I know about those are chipping and maybe some throttle boring. It seems that there isn't alot of aftermarket exhaust work being advertised, but I have an 8v so I'm not looking for it. I bet a Chip and removing the Cat would put your HP up around 200 tho.

you have a 88 944S with an 8V engine? hold everything...you didn't fatfinger the keyboard and meant to type 924S?

88 944S has a 2.5 16v engine

either the original 16v engine was swapped out, or the original 944 emblem in the back was swapped out with a 944S emblem.

check your chassis number, S's have 94JN450001

sorry

A few years ago I owned a 87 944S. It was bone stock except for a K/N and a Weltmeister chip.

The only thing I was certain the chip did was smooth out the idle noticeably. If it did increase hp by 10 or so, I doubt I would even notice it. I seem to remember the chip was about $225, so I gave it a shot. Installation was pretty easy.

As for the K/N, I didn't notice any difference except for a slightly louder exhaust note at WOT. The filter was less than $50.

um i dont think that a chip and removing the cat will give you 50HP. maybe 20, bring you up to about 170 but not 50. The engine thing is right though, i dont think it makes sense putting alot of money into these engines if you want a lot more power. 968 engines will fit right in but they are $$. If you find a good deal then it worth it. Although it is still a NA engine and is hard to mod but i'm sure the extra 90HP will suit you for a little while.

Andre, yer in the same boat Tim was in, the guy has a 944S, it's not 150 hp to start with, it's 188. A chip and removing the cat should put him well over 200 HP, i just like bein conservative.
