Hi guys,

Just bought my first 944 from 1984. Almost perfect, I only had to change the brushes from the generator.

I have one question to you though. I would like to change my timing belt, just in case... I have the haynes manual for the 924 and it says you have to tension it until you can just turn the belt 90 degrees.
Is this also possible for the 944 or do I really need to use a tensioning tool.

You'll need a specail tool. Costs something like $500USD. You can rent one though from various places in the US, not sure about over seas. Welcome to the "brotherhood"!

Welcome....like stray said you need the tensioner.....you could allways hire a mechanic to just swing by after work one day and throw it on...take everything apart for him before hand...and let him throw the belt on...-chris

Welcome to the board....

FTY and Stray pretty much answered it.

You can do all the work, and if you want go ahead put the belts on and do the 90 degree twist, but drive it over to a mechanic and they can tension it. And then have them retension it in 2000 miles.

Good luck

Alex

Thanks guys, now I am looking for a place that sells or hires these tooles. 500 USD is always cheaper than the costs of that a mechanic asks for it over here (1000 usd)
