I have had bilsteins since this summer, and they are stiffer, but to me there really wasn't too much more stiffness than the usual, but they sell for arround 100 each.
as for who had them? pelican should, if not windward is another good place to go. If maybe money is the issue, go for kyb, they don't last a lifetime. They are mono-tube like bilsteins, but the shock body is not on the top end of the shock, so if you auto-x foaming will occcur, but they sell for 40 each. Just remember whatever you do, don't buy koni's!!sure theye're adjustable, but they are twin tube, the shock body is on the bottom so it's really going to foam, and they're like 150+ each. I see alot of ridiculous things on sale for these cars(like anodized cams, like really how long does it take to floor the car???) and alot is just hooplah, koni included. |

my konis work excellent and youll find 60-70% of the porsche owners using them.
and if your new to the intake cam thing, i liked it because it changes the travel to a porportional ratio thing where as 1/8 movement = 1/8 throttle, 1/4 movement = 1/4 throttle. very similar to 99% of the rest of the cars ever made. :-) just my $1.63 worth. |

Whichever one you choose, make sure the suspension is aligned back to spec. If you put in new shocks and they throwout the ride height it will mess up the handling.

I got all confused when trying to sort this issue out, couldn't really get a clear answer, prices were all over the board. So eventually gave up and got standard OE replacements (Boge/Sachs) from sales@shox.com for $63 each. Are they better or worse? Who knows.

They are probably what came on your car. I think Konis or Bilsteins were optional.

I have Bilsteins shocks and struts in my 924. They are awesome! The nose doesn't dive under hard braking and the handling is outstanding. They are stiff, but they make the car very predictable. Well worth the money in my opinion. Next will be upgrading all of the suspension bushings as well as adjustable CamberPlates.

Can anyone say how you go about aligning the suspension back to specs??? We're about to replace shocks front and rear. Didn't know we'd have to think about aligning anything after they're on.... We were pricing and looked at Monroe's....would that be sacreligious? This is for a '77 924.

I know a lot of people have put the Monroes on their Porsches as well. My '79 924 had them when I got them, but they were shot. I think that the ones on my '83 944 are Monroes also. IMO, your better off with a set of Bilsteins. I have them all around on the 924. As far as alignment goes, just take it in to your local tire center for an appointment after everything is finished. You should have everything checked out and aligned to be on the safe side. If everything is already within spec, they usually won't charge you anything. Make sure they also give you the print out of the current alignment measurements on your car as well as the old measurements. Ususally all on one sheet. Keep for your records.
