speedo cable installation
When you replace the speedometer cable on an early car, do you replace the entire cable, or is it easier to just replace the inner piece (if you even can on a '44)?

Entire cable. Tie a heavy cord to the wheel end of the cable (after it's removed from the spindle) and pull it bach through the fire wall. Use the cord to help pull/direct the new cable.

When I replaced mine I only replaced the inner cable but I checked the sheath visually first to be sure there were no kinks or worn-through spots that would cause the needle to bounce. It works perfectly now. Also, a little graphite down the sheath when installing the cable helps, too.
