Porsche Crest Interior pieces won't stay in place...

The interior pieces under the back seat windows and the piece that goes up to the roof won't stay in place (see pictures). I've tried cutting away some of the inside materal on the parts below the window and then tucking the material under the window seal but that won't stay. Is there something I can use to keep these in place or is there something I'm missing?

my car has a trim piece that goes across the rear of the roof in that area, might help. Or is that only for cars with sunroofs?

(still learning...)

nate

PS - checked out your web site trying to find a pic of the roof of your car. Love your wheels! Too bad my car is an '88... I love that early 80's "deep dish" look.

another thought... looks like your quarter window is gonna have to come out to fix this right. I'd recommend 3M trim and weatherstrip adhesive (the yellow goop in the tube) but I have not tried it on Porsche trim yet. test it on some scrap first! I can tell you from personal experience that 3M contact cement and the Porsche vinyl do not get along well

good news is that unless I'm missing something popping that quarter window is not as scary as it probably sounds. Just push it out from the inside (gently...!) and then when you're ready to reinstall it wrap a length of flexible 18 ga. wire in the channel of the rubber seal, have a friend hold it in place from the outside, then while you are sitting in the back seat pull the wire out of the channel so the "lip" of the seal snaps back into place. Really that easy.

Of course, I've never actually done it... but I've done windows on other cars no problem. Hopefully someone will chime in and let you know if there's any P-car specific "gotchas" that I haven't figured out yet.

good luck

nate

I've the same problem. I think its because the header and trim covering material goes brittle and splits/cracks leaving not enough to tuck under the window seal. I've been using glue but gave up and ripped it all out going to recover and countersink washers into the board so screws don't just cut through it.....that big hole gives a lot of support to the trim and when it gives the trim has less support. Also at the top its held buy a screw at the seam of 2 panels! Yours looks like there is no sunroof, as I can't see an across panel? Mine wasn't too bad but think made worse by leaks etc would be better if it was covered on both side so the board doen't break up. Anyway this is what state mines in at the moment!

you can see at the left and right (near the glass lid hinges) its pulling away really bad (right where the water comes in - funny that)

Thanks guys, I guess I'll try some type of adhesive.
Wow, I've never seen the interior of a right hand drive 944 before, that's pretty cool. One thing I've wondered is: The transmission is reversed too isn't it? I mean first gear is on the right, 5th on the left?

Yes the rear qtr panel trim is tucked under the reat qtr windoes. They are very easy to remove. Just reach in and pull one corned of the rubber seel loose and push the window out. It is very easy to reinstall....Take a small piece or rope or twine and wrap it around the groove of the rubber seal so you end up withe the 2 ends of rope crossing at one point. once you have fixed the vynil. lube the window opening with soapy water, hold glass up to the opening and feed the string/rope through. As you hold the glass against the opening, start pulling one of the ends of the string around the opening and you will see the gasket open and fold over into place.

..It looks like in your case with the rear panel trim that the panel may have been wet for a while and has deteriorated. The upper portion that follows the rear window is pretty so there is nothing to adhere the vinyl too. Sometimes they come up on e-bay or someone here may have a pair. I hane found the best adhesive is contac cement, You have to be carefull with it but its strong. welbond makes a good one, just coat both sides you are working on, let them dry slightly until tacky and then apply. Aslo with vinyl when its cold out does not work well, with a little heat from a hair dryer you can get it to stretch a little closer to where you need it...ever try to put a vinyl truck toneau cover on when its 40 degrees out..doesn't happen..

I used 3M interior/carpet adhesive on the trim pieces when I installed the new carpet in my car. It worked well so far, and was easy to use. It comes in a spray bottle.

pearldrum - as far as I now the same gear box was used in every country left or right hand drive 1st is top left & reverse is bottom right.

Sabyre - yeah its always weird seeing the wheel on the other side from your own! You would have thought looking at it I was preping it to track but no! I started taking a lot of trim out to fix the sunroof and got the rear seats dirty so decided to take the whole lot out to use an upholstery cleaner.

I'm using contac glue and the spray on stuff for acoustic carpet.
