The clutch in my '86 NA engages as soon as I start to lift my foot. I would say w/in 1/4th of the pedal travel. Also, it's not a smooth pedal release but rather, all of a sudden "BAM" your clutch has mated to the flywheel. Checked the fluid level, and it's fine, no leaks. I was just curious if anyone that has had their clutch changed out, at what pedal position their clutch engaged. It doesn't affect driving the car.....just awkward going from one car to another.....getting used to it and all..
It is a new clutch installed before I purchased the car less than 5K miles ago. Thanks!

There is an adjustment on the back of the pedal where it attaches to the push rod for the master cylinder, you can adjust the amount of pedal there. Sounds like you need it.

I second that. Look in the Haynes manual. It tells you how much and how to do it.

Lol, i should have adjusted mine way back when. But I'm used to the very small amount of travel before complete engagement...allows me to shift quite quickly.
