924 Fuel Pressure at start.
Iv been told that when the key is inserted, the car should cycle the fuel pump until fuel pressure is attained, at which point it should turn off. This is not happening for me and I think its causing starting problems. I have a 1978 924 with some various problems im working on, when I start the car cold, it dies after a second. I was talking to another 924 owner locally and he told me he wired a timed switch to start the pump for a few seconds when the key is inserted, it cycles and primes the fuel system. Its one way to do it and I might use that method but can someone point me in the right direction to trouble shoot this ? My car has had the fuel pump and relay fixed, iv got a used spare pump im going to swap incase fuel pressure is low but should the pump start before cranking the motor? thanks.

minus000... the pump runs continuously with the key 'on'. It continues to
run in the 'crank' position (and enables the cold start valve, if required). Maybe your fuel pump pressure is low or accumulator is shot or....? macreel '79 924 '84 928

Fuel pressure may be low. Accumlator has been replaced with the more current 40cc set up. I noticed today unpluging the 2 peice connector on the back of the fuel distributer plate, the pump would run with ignition key in accsesory poistion. Starting the car was aided slightly by this and caught after 2 attemps (i.e. didn't reach 1000rpm and die) I plan to clean all the contact and run some extra ground wires under the dash, for now though, its dark and could and will wait another day.

The switch on the fuel distributor makes when the flap opens from air sucked into the motor. This is a safety, so that in a crash the pump doesn't keep pumping with the motor off. You might want to replace the check valve on the pump.

minus000... Be sure your fuel flow is up to par(750 cc in 30 sec); the
control(~20-25 psi @ 20 deg C.) and system pressures (~65-75 psi) must be in range or fuel-air ratio can be off and the engine will stall out. G'luck. m'reel

I have the opposite problem. I am getting way too much fuel at startup and while running.

What year and Model? If its an early 924 I would guess the injectors or the cold start valve is sticking open. Possibly the fuel distributor is bad. How did you determin that you are getting to much fuel?
