Finally bought my 951

Hey guys, tell me what you think. I got it for $6000. Clean title, extensive maintenance history. Ultra sweet deal I think.

$6000?! Are you kidding me? You do realize what a deal you got, right? Very nice, how many miles, and does it have any problems? I'm in the market right now, that's why I ask.

Yeah I know it's an awesome deal. Hahahaha go me! It has 121,000 miles. Only problems are that the sunroof jsut busted on me. Happened four days after I got it. I put up a post on it so you can look at that if you want to help me out!

Yeah I was expecting to pay around $7-8k as well but damn sweet sweet deal. Hey I'll resell it for $8.5k if you interested. Hahaha yeah right. This baby's mine forever.

#1) Trade me your screen name. I want it.

#2) Congrats on what appears to have been a very good purchase. Do you know when the belts were last done for sure? If not, replace your belts immediately.

#3) I don't know where I would start with the sunroof issue, but obviously something shorts when you trigger the switch, causing the fuse to blow. I'd pull apart the console and get that switch out and take a look at the wiring and the switch itself. Maybe you will just have to replace the switch and/or repair some wires. Although, thinking about it, maybe the motor is shorting... basically wait until somebody smart helps you. There are people here who are smart.

Welcome to the board!

The belts were last changed at 102k miles and now we're at 121. Do you think I need to yet? Also, the oil pressure gauge goes to max whenever the car is in motion. Sounds like oil pump needs replacement? Thanks for all the input

Also, anyone in Beaverton, OR experienced with 951's care to help me? hahah. I'm a college student so that automatically makes me poor so don't expect any money.

If you can believe the PO that they were done at 102, then by now, maybe just get them re-tensioned? And then, start saving every penny for when things go sour.

Decent deal for 6k, good looking car! Your brother's either gonna have to get a supercharger for that Boxster, or get used to seeing your tail lights when you go out cruising.

Those early offset phonedials look pretty good with the deep dish look, much better than the '87+ offset. I'm not wild about the 'turbo' reflector panel on the back, the car look cleaner w/o one. For $6K that car was an incredible deal, congrats and welcome to the board.

N/A'ing a turbo is too hard... he'd be better off trading the 951 for my 83 944

You seriously found that for $6K??? What does it have like no transmission or bent valves or something???

NO!!! It can't be real!!! It just can't be!!! It's a fraud!!!

It can't be Oregon either, since you can actually see blue sky.

Seriously though, that is one hella sweet ride. I'd check it out top to bottom and take VERY good care of it, you've got an excellent starting point.

Nicely done. Two questions to ask yourself on the t-belt:

1. Was it done more than 4 years ago? If so, consider replacement. Certainly check tension regardless.

2. Do you know when the waterpump was last done? If not, then you may as well do it with the belt pretty soon (you'd only be changing the belt 9K miles early, not that big of a deal)

As far as the reflector goes, do a search here and on rennlist and you'll see what's involved to switch it back. You'll have to do some paint touchup or have the rear resprayed. Touchup may cut it on a black car, as it's easy to match/blend.

One other thing to quickly consider: your car does not appear to have the bump moldings on the doors and fenders. Given how nice and ding-free she is right now, I'd look into getting those pieces reinstalled. They prevent most dings from doors flinging open in parking lots (except for the rear doors of SUVs ); without them, your car is very vulnerable.
