924 turbo motor swap

***Before you kill me, I DID try really hard to find an affordable 944 S2 motor first***

I want to put a Nissan VG30DE-TT (Nissan 300ZX twin turbo) into my 924 turbo.

-Has anyone else looked into this (or done it)?
-What is involved in a converter (such as those for putting a chevy 350 in)?
-Does anyone know of anything that is really going to get in my way?
-Is there a kit to move the master cylinder & power booster out of the way?
-Does anyone know what the weight difference between these 2 engines is?

I would think finding an S2 motor would be cheaper than those alternatives? Considering the fabrication involved in the other 2..

I can't vote for any of them. I would rather put the time and money into a late 85 944 or buy a real S2. It's your call, but after all that work you need to keep the car for several years to make the economics work.
Unless the 924T you have is perfect then it doesn't make a lot of sense.
There is a fair amount of fabrication required to install the S2 engine as 924 and 944 front frame rails are different, meaning you can't easily use the 944 crossmember so engine mounts have to be fabricated.
There's a lot of electrical changes to be made. Again 924 models are notorious for fuse box problems so that need changing (or better, re-engineering).
It depends on several issues:

1. How much are you prepared to spend (not a budget because it ALWAYS over-runs)
2. Who is going to do the work? If you have to pay someone-forget it.
3. If you are going to do it - do you have the tools, equipment, facilties and another car to drive for months while you do it?
4. Have you included replacing the suspension, brakes and trans in your calculations?
5. When, or better, before you start, call your insurance co and check that they will cover the car and pay a fair market value should it be totalled. Putting several thousand dollars into a 924T that has a $2k market value and then loosing it is not particularly pleasant.

Why not an Audi motor? say a 5 cyl of a turbo-4? The original 924 is an Audi motor so the mounting to the trans/bellhousing/flywheel whatever should bolt right together...don't know the correct terms for the front engine rear trans inbetween stuff.

Hell, try an Audi TDI...is there such a beast? Lotsl of low end torque and great mpg!

Can the 931 trans take this kind of power?

Depends on the year. '81-'82 are the same as the early 944 trans which can have R&P problems. '80 931 had a Porsche gearbox which is truly indestructable except for the weak syncros (just shift precisely).

There's nothing inherently wrong with the 924/931 fuse boxes other than 20+ year old wires. They plug in just like any other fuse box in existence.

Keep in mind, any engine swap is going to cost you several thou no matter what you do. If you've got that in your hand, a well-stocked garage, and a year to kill, then you can pick any engine you want to swap in.

Somewhere I heard a rumor that a late model vw upright 4 will go in. I caught myself thinking that if the 2.0 will go will the 2.8 vr6? I have run across recently a site of a an audi inline 5 20v turbo..
