Pix of my newly painted '83 944

Pix taken with a video camera, so not best quality. You'll get the picture. It came out great, I think. Some may know the shape the paint was in at the CT timing belt party! This is a definate improvement.

One word: CLASSY.

I love the early cars with understated colors and black fuchs. That's a rare sunroofed '83 car you've got there. Nice!

Looks real good!!

You know, early cars really benefit from a drop in rear ride height a bit. Get you a big old breaker bar and break loose those eccentrics!

I thought the rare ones would of been with the sunroof delete? My '83 has the sunroof.

Just the factory unit, no sunroof, or aftermarket jobs. Saratoga is an aftermarket see-thru top, made to replace the factory unit.

Nice looking 83! Did you do the paint yourself or did you have a shop do it? How far did you take the car apart to paint it? It looks nice.

Looks good. Wonder how colour matched Fuchs would look on it? Was planning to do that with my car but a clutch job and door ding repairs and touch up put a hold on that for a while.

Thats the same color as mine.

I know that I will be repainting it when I do some " Body Work " and wondering what cost will be for a GOOD paint job & do you have to get the paint from Porsche.

Looks GREAT by the way.

Don

No, any paint shop, or paint supply store will have a color key book for your year/make/model of car. They simply mix it in the store/shop.

$857 total at Maaco. They has 2 other 944s there when I picked it up. They seemed to have taken good care of it and spent a little extra time on the details. For the $, it is awesome (in my book). It is a "Metallic Zweischicht - Platin M8V". They fixed about 10 dings, 4 areas on the hood where branches fell on the car, 1 roof dent from a big branch. The largest problem (attached) was the right rear fender was dented in (from previous elderly owner backing out of the garage). Attached are 2 pix from when I first got it:

I got the Value Prep - Ultra Urethane with Integrated Clear Coat. They ran a special in early Feb for $399. I put a deposit down to secure the price, as the car was in storage. I brought it back in late March and it was there for 2 weeks (I wasn't in a rush). All the body work and removing the brittle fender guards, removing the Porsche decal plus the price of paint was $409. Maaco was alot more professional than I expected. They showed me 5 cars that were just painted before I made the decision to do the job. They gave me a tour of the spray booth / oven. I was very impressed. I recommend this to everyone! Thanks for the compliments!!

Nice car mine is the same color (or similar) the paint code on mine is LA1Y. How did the stone guard clear plastic stuff just before the rear wheel well come off, I read in the factory manual to use a heat gun but I was wondering if it damaged the paint when you peeled them off. I have a good scratch in mine and would like to replace one of them.

Damn nice car, I hope the paint job looks as good 5 years from now as it does today!

Dave
