Question best transaxle for a 944

I've been seriously debating the lt-1 conversion for my 944 NA. My only worry about it is the transaxle. I've heard that the NA transaxle is only rated for around 200 or less HP and the turbo trans is rated at 350 or less. But what if I intend to get more than that out of my lt-1. It's very possible that I would. What could I do to make the trans withstand that much pressure? or what trans would be the best to get for the job that will handle 400+ ponies?

The Camaro trans that fits real good in a CAMARO (or other GM POS) will handle 400+. Other than that 951 trannies have been known to support 400+.

If you want a LT-1 buy a car that has one.

You knew this was coming right?

Lack of headers?

That's a free- flow exhaust. Makes the car lighter, too.

I guess a 951 wasn't fast enough? With the money put into that conversion from a 951, the owner could have easily bought kit that makes the same amount of hp without destroying a beautiful car. What a waste.

Even 944s want V8s under their hood

My car asked me if I'd swap an LS1 in the engine bay when the 2.5 dies. I told her I'd think about it.

Did the S2 trannies get the hardened gear treatment that some of the turbo trannies got? If so, I would think that would be the way to go.

in all seriousness guys c'mon....i didn't ask for the ridiculing comments. I was just wondering what would be the best transaxle to put in the car. I the turbo tranny will handle well over 400 HP then that will probably be the one that i go with.
Thanks silver 944....i figured somebody would say that, but can the camaro's handle like a 944? I want a car the will handle like a dream and still have bragging rights on the straight aways. Camaro's and Corvette's...everybody knows somebody with 1. 944's are something desired to own and i'm just trying to make it the dream car to drive that it deserves to be *tear*.

TUrbo tranny is your best bet. They can easily handle 400rwhp cars on sustained track use. The abuse of dropping the clutch and hammering through the gears is what does them in.
