Brake dust covers?

I am planning on refinishing my wheels soon and was looking at Brake dust covers to go behind the wheels. Does anyone have any experience with these? Where is a good place to buy them? The only place I have seen is performance products, 4 for $65. Also, will they fit my BBSs?

The dust covers bolt right into the back of the brake caliper holding thingie. You'll see the support (looking at the back-side of the tire from inside the wheel well) a light (or dark if it's dirty) aluminum ring around. That's your dust cover.

Matters not on the size of your wheels, it's bolted right into the backside of the calipers. You should already have them. And they're usually just a millimeter or two larger in diameter than your brake rotors.

D'oh! you mean something between your wheels and the brake rotors? I'd say nay. Save that $65 and spend $20 on a liter bottle of some P21S and spend the time every week to clean your rims. As long as you clean them, no worries on brake dust corrosion. And corrosion from brake dust usually effects anodized aluminum, chrome, and un-painted aluminum.

Nice pic!
I like the BBS wheels, they are my favorite right after the cookie cutters.

I'd be worried about excess heat build-up.

The ad. says it "does not inhibit brake cooling". Thanks for the compliment MrPants. I guess I'll just go with cleaning them as much as possible after I re-do them. Thanks.

The PO seemed to have one on the pass. side but not on the drivers. I must say that the side with the cover stayed SIGNIFICANTLY cleaner. I have since pulled it off to have uniform dirtiness on all four wheels.

I think they would look good with the bbs/cookie or other 'closed' style rims.

If anyone wants ONE 944 dust cover its your for $5 plus shipping. Or trade me for something useless that you have!

Hey TCMdacs944,
I'd like to take a look at those dust covers, I'm tired of scrubbing that #$%&*!! brake dust off my wheels. I live in Tampa. Send me an email.

Sorry Marko,

if you read closely I only have ONE. I guess the PO couldn't spring for the other four

dut cover heat

these have gone underground for about 10 years- prolly to allow those in the know lapse into minivan-dom. Anyhoooo... when these came out they were well proven (by the type of engine temp monitoring paint that changes color at X degree) to inhibit brake cooling- Try "dustless" pads there not really dustless just light in color and sos the dust
