Valve Job Being Done - Need Some Numbers Apparently
Well, the head was checked for flatness and it's good. It was cleaned, submerged etc. The valve job is being done today. We took a gander in the factory manuals, a hayes manual, several message boards, and googlesearching and have come up empty on the information the mechanic needs to finish the job.
He says he requires valve spring test pressure. Without it, he can't perform the test. This is all new to me, and I'm unsure exactly what he needs. If anyone else can help that would be great. 1986 Porsche 944 2.5L n/a |

Since you have the head out, for piece of mind just swap all the springs with new ones. Tired springs will affect performance. I think that porsche recommends to check the length of the springs, if they are below a certain length they should be replaced.

ALl they need to do is that they all have the same resistance and sit square..... thats what we did... I can't even remember what the spring resistance is???
Don't mix up the shims/spacers

The installed height and correct valve stem height above the cam box face measurements are in the workshop manual or specification book on page 35/36.

Brit is right the info to install the valvesprings, valves to the head is in the manual....
but I recall looking for a spec on spring resistance as you are .... and could not find it. So averaging out the resistance and seeing if one is way out is the easiest/quickest way to see if one is out of whack....... Unfortunately having 8 sets of springs testing within spec may not save you from a spring just letting go 1000 miles after the rebuild. ![]()

But at $70/valve, that's a huge investment at this point.
