Performance suspension and wheels Questions
1. Well I have decided that I will be selling my 17/7.5 inch rims because they dont fit. Im looking to buy a new set of some really sweet wheels THAT WILL FIT on a 87 924S, DOes anyone know where to look for a good quality, maybe lighter wheel??
2. I am also looking to do some suspension mods. I just installed a rear sway bar and Im looking to do some more suspension upgrades. Im very affraid to touch the rear torsion bars. How hard is it to install stiffer torsion bars? 3. What is a good suspension upgrade, I want to Do everything, Shocks, springs, torsion bars, sway bars. Im looking for something that is streetable, I dont mind if I can "FEEL" the road. It also needs to be good for MILD autoX and LIGHT-MILD track. SO what would be a good suspension Package for this type of use????? Thanx alot guys

Read my SIG.
T bars....Time consuming, you will need scales to balance- labor intensive job! Not going to be in racing or AutoX, street use only......save the money and drive it stock. Wheels are your call....not much to pick from for the 924S. 16" max by 8" width max. Try some BBS's or Fuchs go to wheelenhancement.com you will see what is available for you there for replacement Porsche wheels and aftermarket sets. Sman

23mm on the 83.... yes but spacers are needed to fit. These are Boxster wheels so the O/S is whatever the Boxster uses. Yes a 17"X 7.5" will fit with the correct O/S or spacers when applicable. Sman

I wouldnt bother with the torsion bars unless you wanna get really dirty. I would say with the money you get for the twists buy some fuchs and refinish them then get konis with coil overs all around. The car you got from me had rear koni adjustable ride heights on them ...I dont know how many miles were on them but they didnt seem too loose.
On another note....Theres a kid at our school who has another 944 and he cant pass emissions because he has a straight pipe ...Hes willing to buy my old exhaust off you for 100 I think ...but he wants to check it out first. His name is Ian ...ill get his # if your interested.

hi
i just bought a 89 porsche 944 n/a and i am looking to make some upgrades. After racing it a bit ive decided to do something about the suspension but im not sure where to get parts for it or what parts to get. There seem to be almost no parts for a 89 944 n/a for some reason all the parts are for older models or turbos. If anyone knows of a coilover kit or any other suspension upgrade for my car please post it. Thank you. |

Get the M030 spec front ride-height adjustable Konis, then a proper auto-x alignment (lower a bit in the front and rear, -rear should lower a bit w/out re-indexing t-bars). Those will give you a very firm ride and eliminate a lot of your body roll. IIRC you have 23.5mm torsion bars, which should be adequate, the M030 spec 25.5s would be a nice upgrade, but the car shouldn't be imbalanced w/ stock rears. & Installing new T-bars is a pretty big pain. But do add the yellow koni shocks for the rear. Both the fronts and rears should be readily available used, you'll have to find out if the 951S spec fronts will fit, as those are quite available. IMO, M030 spec is just right for street, auto-x and light track/DE.

If you want streetable, but better handling you do the basic modifications I did:
26.8mm Front bar, Bilstein Gas Shocks 19mm Rear bar, Bilstein Gas Shocks 205/55-16 Front on 6x16 225/50-16 Front on 7x16 (I've running 6x16 to stay stock legal) Lower the back rear to level the car I'll find the car takes on a whole new feel with these minor changes. |
