Door buzzer relay quick fix
If your door buzzer relay (G-16) has stopped functioning —a blessing to some drivers—but chose not to replace it due to the exorbitant cost ($200+), here’s a possible fix.
This relay incorporates a tiny speaker that emits a gong-like sound if your seat belt is unfastened, if you leave the lights on or the key is in the ignition switch and the door is opened. It also incorporates a catalytic temperature sensor warning. So yes, it’s annoying and yet important. Part numbers are: 928-618-102-01; 928-618-102-02; 928-618-102-03. The relay consists of a circuit board module and a small speaker at the top of the relay. In my case, opening the top of the case revealed a broken speaker wire connection. At first I thought I could simply solder the wire back onto the speaker but soon discovered that the solder terminal had actually broken off and it could not be repaired. I began the search for a replacement speaker and contacted the manufacturer in Japan. They wanted to know how many thousands of units I wished to purchase!! Obviously an alternative source was needed. Fortunately, I located an electronic parts distributor in Minnesota that had a similar product at the very reasonable price of $2.18 ($5.75 which shipping + tax)!! It was then a simple task to solder the new speaker and re-assemble the unit into a working module once again. The original part was a 20mm round speaker with 8 ohms impedance and 100mW (milliwatt) power rating. The replacement is the same physical size and impedance but has a 300mW rating which is just fine. Here’s a link to the product page on the distributor’s website: CDM-20008 CUI Inc. | Audio Products | DigiKey Good luck! ![]() ![]() ![]()

It's important?
Re: "a blessing to some drivers" (that would be me). I pulled that relay the first week of ownership (1988) and it has been in a box of parts along with the electric window relay ever since. I haven't noticed any problems without it and my car doesn't scream at me. Maybe the 924S wiring is simpler.
I especially like that I can operate the windows without the ignition on since I removed and jumpered the window relay. Thanks for the repair tip for those that want or need that relay.
