Electronic speed sensor, do they make?
I want to know if they make an electronic speed sensor for out cars. I know that Autometer has a sender for some transmissions which is supposed to work
http://hp.autometer.com/products/accessories/prog_speedo_sender/prog_speedo_sender.html but wil this work with out cars? Just wondering. Thanks, Shawn |
I have an electronic Speed sensor in mine...
its called a GPS !!!! Magellan Map 410 |
Um i don't know anything about gps, but is it an actually speed sensor based on tri positioning, or is it just a map extra and not in the actual cluster?
|
GPS = Global Positioning System Works on satelites in orbit to calculate your position direction, and altitude.
You may need to pick up an 85.5+ tranny. I believe you would have to drill, tap, and clean the older tranny to fit the speed sensor. The later tranny has the speed sensor around the differential area. |
Hehe yeah that's what i meant about the GPS. Well no that's not what i meant but i knew that. i was thinking of using seismegraphs to tripoint epicenter locations during earthquakes. Silly me :) Will an 85.5+ fit that? My car has an LSD tranny i dunno if they came with it on not. I know the person mentioned something about it needing to be replaced beause of clunking i heard when driving it, but i don't hear anything now.
I'm pretty sure it's an LSD trans. I will jack it up tomorrow and see. In my dirt driveway i can drop the clutch and it will spin both wheels at the same speed, in the grass the same, when drifting in the grass the same, and when spinning in reverse the same. Does this make it an LSD? What if my speed sensor is mounted on the wheel? I haven't thought to check yet while doing all this stupid stuff i know rpms go way up in gear, but i haven't look at speed. I'll let you know tomorrow. I thought LSD trans only came in later models though. |
Your speedometer comes off of the left front wheel via cable.
Some have used the sensor fins on the rotors for the ABS. But you would need a later car. |
LSD was a factory option, some had it, some not. You'll have to do the jack up the rear trick to find out. I can spin both tires as well, what counts is when you're turning, the inside wheel would spin while the outside wheel played dead.
EDIT: You'll need to calibrate the speedometer, but yeah, it'll work. |
