Infamous clutch shudder

Can anyone explain exactly what that clutch shudder feels like?
Here's what mine does....after car is driven and fully warmed up,
the clutch feels kind of rough, usually on 1 to 2 shift when letting clutch pedal up. Don't know how else to describe it other than the clutch feels rough and sticky.
Me thinks it's time for a new clutch....
TIA

Sounds like clutch shudder. Should deminish when you can let the clutch out quickly but not totally dump it.

Needs to have the flywheel resurfaced and possibly a new pressure plate besides a spring center disk.

This can alos happen when the throw out bearing hangs on it's guide tube. You can reach the tube and put a bit of grease on it through the starter opening and/or inspection hole.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

Clutch shudder happens straight from cold. If anything it diminishes when the engine gets warm. Clutch shudder in my understanding is when you start up in first gear the whole car shudders when clutch released so that car can start. It should not happen in second, third, ..., unless you try to move at very slow speeds for the gear. I reackon you just have a sticky gearbox that may be caused by the clutch not fully disengaging when clutch pedal pressed. Sticky gearchanges when hot can also be due to oil in the tranny being to old. An oil change will normally cure the problem.

Is clutch-shudder common on 924s? I get quite a bit of it in reverse. It's not until i have the pedal to the floor that the shudder dissipates...

I would say clutch-shudder is common to all cars that have seen a number of new clutches without doing anything about the flywheel. Also bad engine and/or tranny mounts would intensify shudder.

More so in the early 924 as the clutch is cable operated.

Mine has a cable?! wtf!

Time to upgrade to hydraulic. Last thing i want is every 6 months jumping under the car, adjusting my rear brakes AND my clutch cable ;\

Actually ive been thinking about converting mine from hydrolic. All these hydrolic systems are more trouble than theiur worth. The only thing worse than adjusting a clutch cable every six months is replacing a clutch master or slave and then bleeding it every other year.

Cable has a lot more feel, I thought the design was hydraulic due to the necessary route for the mechanics of the clutch. I never knew the 924 was cable.

I've owned my 944 all most twenty years and have replaced the clutch hydrualics once. I drive it most every day.

Ever played "find the clevice" ?

Going 75mph down an open road, i've had one on a 911 go it's separate ways, if you know what i mean.
