Purists..

Am i the only person who absolutely hates purists?

What is with you people?

Are you some cult that popped up when you bought your car?

I cant stand people that think that the engineering for a car is a 100% perfect when it OBVIOUSLY isnt.

Have you ever heard of an internet expression on message boards calling someone a 'troll'?

Well, you're being a troll.

Zlatko,
We have the same engine. What performance improvements have you come up with? I would love to learn and improve mine.

Like the others I hate trolls. But I wouldn't worry about the non-purist accusations. After all its not like a 944 is a real Porsche.

Let's see:

I have an early style. I have moved the window controls to the center console, installed a voltmeter where the speaker grille used to be, shaved the head ever so slightly, installed a stainless steel heat shield above the exhaust manifold, removed and replaced about 50 yards of substandard wiring and connectors, and if I had the inclination, I would really consider trashing the engine as well. But, for now, it runs, passes emissions, and I'm just getting a bit too old to be interested in 500 ft-lbs of torque!!
As for purists, anyone who reads "Excellence" quickly learns both from articles and ads that there are few truly "stock" 911s out there over ten years old. Slope nose kits, engine transplants, fender extensions, bigger turbos, totally different brakes, gauge faces, etc. There are whole "Gruppes" of revolutionaries out there!!

Whereas, our initiator here may be deemed a troll, there has been a tendency for the group to pooh pooh most questions/ideas/suggestions concerning the N/A boat anchor.

Porsche was initially built on the idea that constant innovation was to take place, that technology and experimentation would always improve the breed. If that improvement came from non Porsche sources, that was OK too, like the counter shaft idea that is under license, trannies from M-B, axle shafts from VW, the list goes on.

With the price of the 944 being so reasonable, I can think of no better engineered platform upon which to experiment, if one so desires.

Man, that was harsh. Some of my best friends are 911 owners. All depends on whether or not they had a bad childhood I guess.

I want my car to "be all that it can be". Sorta like the army, I guess .

Funny thing is that people here are saying that the 'purists' thumb their noses at them.

Isn't that what you're doing to them in this poist?

Can't we all just get along?

My 944S2 isn't stock. However, the only 'mods' (How I HATE that word) are: rear sway bar, upgraded stereo & speakers, 5-spoke 968 wheels, roll-bar, & rear lens between the taillights. Motor and suspension are completely unmolested.

HOWEVER: If I get my hands on a nice early 911, or a 914, or a 356, I would most likely keep it stock. Maybe not concours condition, but there's nothing wrong with stock.

My $0.42,
-Z.
