Intake valves

I'm now at the stage where i took the intake manifold off. I took pictures of all the intake valves so some of the experienced guys might already put me on to some things that might be worth looking for when taking the engine apart.

So can the experienced 944/951 engine people out here tell me about the state of my engine (or at least the intake valves). Don't worry about some of the dirt you'll see, that just fell in when i removed the manifold. The oily stuff is lubricant for the removal of the bolts, so no worries there either, i'm especially intereseted in the amount of wear and charcoal on the top side of the valve. Is this normal?

I have pictures from all four, but they all look identical.

Thanks!

Every engine I ever saw apart, regardless of manufacturer, had carbon deposits in the area you specified.

Since you drive a TUrbo.... the real questions will be on the exhaust valves....... and on the face of the head (pitting/corrosion etc)

The last 2 heads ( 200K mile ) I had.... had little to no valve guide wear the seats begin to thin out more so on the Turbo as well..... The exhaust valves on the turbos can take a pounding......

Whats the mileage on your car ?

Hehe, well, i'm note sure if these are still the real figures, but as far as i can conclude from the different maintenance records it should be.

intakes look fine - as AE said, check your exhaust valves
