multiple electrical problem
New to forum. Just bought an 84 944 has multiple electrical problems. turn lights, hazard lights, fog lights, gas gauge, and windshield washer are a few that there is a problem with (not working) is there a common ground for these that may be loose? There are other things not working but not as important as the above listed.

First thing I would check is all of the fuses. The early 944's use the open buss fuse like the old VW's. These can corrode on the ends and cause all sorts of mystery problems. Twisting them sometimes works but I've found it best to remove them one at a time and inspect them.
The major ground is the short strap from the battery to the fire wall. Clean the end at the fire wall. There is a cluster of ground connections above the fuse/relay box. A real PITA to get to unless you drop the fuse block. Turn signals could be the relay or a bad turn signal unit on the steering column. The washer pump may be shot. Have to jump it directly to the battery to find out. This is also run off of the turn signal switch assembly on the steering column and through the wiper relay. |
Thanks, Will try that and hope it works.

Take the fuses out one at a time and run some emory paper over the ends of the fuses and the fuse box terminals. That fixed a lot of my intermitted electrical problems. I had the same problem on my 77 924. 5:30 in the morning and all the headlights lights go out. Weird German wiring, the highs and lows, left and right are all on different fuses, but all went out at once.
