Ah perfectly what i needed SoCal. My next move would have been to unhook it at the brake handle. I have the shoes off, but the cable was just too tight to see anything. I do see a joint inside on the lever arm which i sprayed with brake clean and i think that is what you are talking about. I really couldnt get a good look though. I will remove the parking brake handle and assembly which falls down randomly as is so maybe i can fix two things at once.

You should be able to pull enough of the cable through the backing plate to unhook it.

Parking brake handle comes off with just a couple of bolts. Not really necessary to remove it to flip the pawl around or loosen the cable assembly. However one may have to remove the seat to get to the hole with the cable adjustor. It's under a flap of carpet.
