Brake Job / AC Estimate

Hello all. First time poster here...

I just got a pretty steep estimate on a brake job: $800

I have an '84 944

I need all 4 rotors replaced, as they are warped, and all new pads (of course).

The estimate I got was for Zimmerman Rotors, Jurid Front Pads and Textar Rear Pads. He also mentioned something about sensors on the pads and seals. He said he would repack the bearings and everything. My question to you guys... is it worth it to go through him or should I just get the parts off here. They just say OEM, so they dont really give me too much info, and should I do it myself? I've done brake jobs on other cars (just never on a Porsche) I'm not sure if its any different.

He also gave me an estimate on the AC -- the condensor needs replaced, and he quoted me about $650 for replacing that and converting it over to the newer style instead of sticking with the old freon. From what I gather, this is a pretty good price, and I don't want to do this one myself... just seeing if this is a good price too ;)

Do the brakes yourself and let him do the ac since thats a decent price.

what are those part numbers from? or are they just general part numbers. Also, where did you get the prices? I'm specifically interested in the lower of the prices :D

Any suggestion on where to get these parts?

I think i'm going to take your adive and do the brake job myself and save a little bit

Thanks for your responces.

Brakes are just as easy to do as any other car out there. I was motivated to do mine after getting a similar quote. While you're in there might as well repack your bearings.

As I've said before, the brakes are easy, good starting project.
