Clutch guide tube loose

I have this incredible annoying rattle coming from my trans... When I got under to see what was going on I was able to see that past my clutch linkage, the clutch guide tube was basically fluttering around. Not attached in any way. I just seems to be held in place by the package stackup.
How easy is this to remedy...? If I remove the case will I have to do anything special before I put it back.? It doesn't seem too complicated sincie I won't have to go far to get to the part, but I'm don't want to mess anything else up while I'm at it .... You know???
Also, I will have to fasten it back down somehow but I don't even know what fastener to use. Please Help... Thanks

One more thing... How dangerous is this situation, if I were to drive it somewhere to have it done?? Thanks

You don't say what model you have but I am assuming it is a 944. If that is true then you are going to hate what I have to say. The labour estimate for this job will probably be around 10 hours. The labour involved in fixing this is just short of a full clutch job. You need to drop the exhaust system, the shift linkage, the tranny, move the torque tube and then bolt the part back on. Sorry man.

I have a 968... essentially a 944... Is this unsafe??.. It seems to work fine except for the rattling... shifting and operation seem to work well... As for the job.. (10 hours sounds like hell... any recommendations..?)

You lucky bastard. The 968 has a different bellhousing and ??Torque tube?? that said you can cut that labour down considerably as the tranny shouldn't need to come out. Try to get in touch with a couple of the Techs on this forum. They will know how long it will take. I only know it is WAY better than the 944.
