Wheels & Polishing

Hey all, I have a picked up a set of 16x7J Fuchs which were refurbed not that long ago but with a different colored centre to my cars colour and I want them back to black. The other prob is they seem to have painted the outer rims as well (silver), which I would prefer polished. If this has been to hide kerbing etc can that be repaired and polished? I saw someone with a set of 928 style alloys polished they looked good (was on a red 944 with air heads thread) can the same be done to design 90's? (ps the technical thread on refurbing is v helpful).

Curbing marks and minor nicks, etc. can be diminished or removed via sanding and polishing. FWIW, here's a pic of a fully stripped and polished 16x7 Fuchs.

Refinishing just the outer rim would be considerably less work.

Those are sharp. What do you polish those with?

I polish the wheels with Mother's each time I wax the car. I've used other good polishes such as Flitz and Semichrome but Mother's seems to polish a little better and it supposedly leaves a protective coating.

Nope, that represents (im guessing) 15 hours per rim of polishing.

How close did i come?

NICE!

Yep. I tried to keep true to my low budget, DIY approach to prepping the NA and spent a lot of time on each wheel, very close to 15 hours each... if you count stripping, smoothing and polishing. Polishing the anodized lug nuts was time consuming, as well. But I enjoyed the project despite the work/time involved.

Cheers for the link Panzer. Bertman those Fuch's looked great I'm considering doing that but huge amount of work - you obviously have great patience! The prob I have is that one Fuch has a nasty scrape from kerbing (wasn't me honest) not very big less than 1 inch long but quite deep (3mm), just wondered if some sort of shop could fill/repair it? I was also asking about design 90's because have been offered a set cheap but they need refurbed and wondered if them polished up well (any pics)? Thanks

those would be mine. the polishing is definitely worth it and looks tons better than chrome. (chrome is damned cheesy. IMO) I say go for it

bertman, awesome job on those wheels. there is nothing like seeing the reflection off your wheels sparkle on the pavement on a sunny day
