CAT Bypass Test Pipe?

Anyone have any experience with one of these on an NA...its just that my current exhaust sounds anemic and I was considering a Bursch. Our host PP indicated that they dont have a Bursch for an '86 (Perf Prods does, sorry Wayne...), however, PP did say that I could purchase a GHL for $317 +...dont know if I want to spend that much only to later decide I dont like it...any suggestions?

I've used a Bursch test pipe with the Bursch header on an NA for many years. I don't think it does anything particularly good for exhaust sounds. If anything, the sound, with header/test pipe & OE muffler, is tinny and whooshy, if you know what I mean. Exhaust note may be different/better with just the test pipe and stock header or with a free flow muffler, I'm not sure.

However, if you can live with the sound, the Bursch system might actually improve performance a little on your NA, complementing the cam and compression increases for a little more punch at higher rev's.

Im running a Bursch Header and test pipe with a B&B catback exhaust on my 87 924S, I like the way it sounds, throaty at low RPM and up around 4500-6500 it sounds like a F-1 car kinda cool, I havent had any problems with it and I noticed a torque increase threw the RPM range, I think it also helped with my other mods. Let me know if you have any questions

Alright,

I went for it. Had the cat replaced with a test pipe (the car is being used for off-road porpoises only ;) ).

I like the low rumble. Is this possible, it seems to rev a little quicker???? Maybe the CAT was constipated?...

I like it...

When is the next So Cal meet? I'd like to compare it or at least get some objective, first-hand, onsite, opinions from some fellow owners...(this excludes YOU Ronin, unless YOU are planning to come down here so that my pet can give you a good ole fashioned Llama azz whuppin...):D :D

oh, you name the time and place, and I'll be there to face off with that dromedary wannabe once and for all. but you had better bring yer spitoon

and what's with you suddenly dissin' porpoises. you got a problem with seaborne mammals? well do ya?!?

and shame on you for using a test pipe for noise instead of performance. tsk tsk ;) I've been thinking of going the test pipe route myself once I start doing performance mods. the noise shouldn't change much due to the turbo
