944 in a barn.

Can someone help me. I'm looking at a old Porsche 944 in my area.

The owner claims the car is a 83 model. But, its got that elusive hook on the back, a Turbo badge...

I've not be able to just crawl under the car and look. All my information is second hand on it, and a glimpse over a fence at it. I'm not a 944 guy, so I don't know what he's got.

I did get a Vin number on it VIN # WP0AA944DN450248

Can anyone tell me what it is off that?

Thank you in advance.

There should be a "0" after the WPOAA....

it's not a turbo
it is a US model
2.5 liter
no airbag for driver/pass
1983 model
assembled in Neckarsulm plant (not Zuffenhausen)
serial number 50248
coupe (not cabrio) but you can see that unless it was some kind of aftermarket thing....

hope this helps.

Thinking on the positive side, it's possible tht it could be an aftermarket callaway turbo. I think 30 or so cars were modified in '83-'85, and the whereabouts of many of them is unknown. i know there is at least 1 person on this board with an early callaway turbo.

Does the badge look like a factory 944 turbo badge, or off a different P-car?, or an aftermarket badge?

You should go look under the hood of this car.

Porsche Crest I'll check

The bade on the back is just like the one on the Ferarri above. Its the standard turbo badge it looks like to me. I'll call and ask him though.

The car was offroad when someone feel asleep. He says it will drive and run, and has just sourced 4 new rims for the car. Its not here in Ogden but in Vernal utah, aka middle of nowhere. Interior was trashed, and needed some minor bodywork from the off roading, as it had hit a rock is what he has told me.

I'll call the guy and see if its a calloway. I doubt I want it, and I'll see if I can post some contact info here for someone else.

I don't think the Calloways used a turbo badge on the back. They used a small Calloway badge/logo on the back.

That makes sense since the 944 turbo/951 wasn't on the market yet

Or, here's something earth-shattering.......................Someone could have put a 951 "Turbo" badge on it sometime post-1986 when the badges were available.
