944 fuel pump sound
Should the sound from the fuel pump, as I turn the key to start, be heard everytime or just some of the time? Just wondering. Thanks, 1986 944 n/a

Depends on how long the car has been sitting.
Wife drives and older Passat VR6 in which the pressure "leaks down" over night. Turn on the key, listen for the hum, when it stops, crank. There are NO after market manuals for the older Passat VR6 models. If there were, I could fix it. The local dealer has looked at it, and it still has the same problem.

Your 4-banger must be really quiet. I never heard my fuel pump, :-)

I hear it for the split second before the engine starts up. I also have an 83 model and the relay as you know is under the dash and I can also here it click before the engine starts.

I thought you were asking about the sound of the fuel pump, not the relay...
All relays in my car are loud, and I can hear those under the dash when they engage.
