Electrifying 944!

I just HAD to put this on the group...
I stumbled across an electric porsche 944...
Top Speed: 104MPH
0-60 : 8.7secs

The 944 was coupled with an inbred  jetta (gasoline engine) for better range!

WHY? WHY?:D

Aside from the Jetta nonsense, that's some really impressive acceleration for an electric car. 8.7 0-60 isn't far from the stock 8.3 gas engine time!

I LOVE the trailer!!!

fast924S 07-13-2004 07:26 PM

I hate it, I wonder how bad it handles, look at how low the back is sitting, If your gonna do it do it to like a honda CRX, small and light

fast924S 07-13-2004 07:42 PM

Why not just go get a PRIUS

ronin 07-13-2004 08:12 PM

Are those acc. times based on "spin dry" or "rinse" cycle?SmileWavy

I still cannot figure using the driveshaft/transmission. Shouldn't be necessary and only uses up more power. Electrc motor can be reversed electrically and when in the "off" position (at rest) uses no power. No clutch needed, no gearshift, just a forward/reverse toggle.

Jack up the rear wheels of a 924/944 with the engine out and see what kind of effort it takes to turn that shaft!!

Yea but then you cant get the torque or the higher speeds without the tranny, you could only go as fats as the motor will spinn and it would be alot harder do get the car rolling
