Question backfire

problem: i'm getting backfire through fuel distributar, what is causing this,also won't stat when i turn her over the starter turns
then stops then turns over, then i crank her over, and after a bout
six revs she backfires. whats happening?

Assuming that you have a 924 (the 944 doesn't have a fuel distributor), I would guess that your ignition timing is incorrect. You are sending a spark to the plug while the intake valve is open.

You also may have a camshaft timing problem.

thanks 944 ECOLOGY: WELL MY TIMING IS RIGHT ON THE MONEY!
AND IF IT WASN' T I'LD BE GETTING BACKFIRE THRU THE MUFFLER.
SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT IT MAY BE A STUCK TAPPET? DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM? IF SO PLEASE HELP! I

naw man....check your rotor...as in cap and rotor....trust me Lemme know what happens and if the set screw is still there

TO: VERY WORN 944. WELL, I WENT OUT TODAY, BOUGHT A NEW CAP
AND ROTOR, AND GUESS WHAT?!!!!!! IT DIDN'T WORK. STILL BACKFIRES THROGH THE FUEL DISTRIBUTOR. NOW WHAT SHOULD I DO
DAMM, I JUST THOUGHT OF IT!!!! I HAVE A SPARE GALLON OF GAS IN THE BACK!!!!!
